Central Falls to Host Thanksgiving Dinner
CENTRAL FALLS – The City of Central Falls, in association with Holiday Express and several sponsors, will be hosting a thanksgiving dinner on Thursday, November 24, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the dinner will take place at the Knights of Columbus Hall located at 20 Claremont Street.
Mayor James Diossa said, «I am extremely pleased that we can host this dinner again this year. Everyone deserves a meal on this day. Thanksgiving is meant to be spent with family and friends giving thanks. I’m glad that we can come together as a Central Falls family on Thursday and share a meal together.»
Major Daniel Barzykowski, a Holiday Express organizer and major in the Central Falls Police Department, said, «We are all about coming together as a community.” He continued “We saw the possibility of the Thanksgiving Dinner not occurring, so I brought it to the [Holiday Express] board to see if what something we wanted to take on and the vote was unanimous in favor.»
Holiday Express is made up of a committee of individuals who dedicate their professional lives to the City of Central Falls and choose to give back. They have several events throughout the holiday season including: A breakfast at Veterans Memorial School, where children can take a picture with Santa and take a gift home on December 17th at 9 a.m. December 19th will be the date for home deliveries, which families in need can sign up at Progreso Latino and the Police Department. Finally, there will be a turkey dinner from 5-7 p.m. on December 21st at the high school where clothing items will be given out.
This year’s Thanksgiving Dinner is free and open to the public. Sponsors include Mayor Diossa’s office, Navigant Credit Union, FOP Lodge 2, IAFF Local 1485, Local 1567, Local 1627, United Health, Aramark, the Knights of Columbus, and the Central Falls Prevention Coalition. All are encouraged to attend.
