C‑SPAN TO VISIT NARRAGANSETT AND PROVIDENCE ON APRIL 3 TO HONOR STUDENTCAM DOCUMENTARY WINNERS
National winners from Narragansett High School and Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts to be honored in ceremony, in partnership with Cox Communications
WASHINGTON (April 1, 2019) – C‑SPAN and Cox Communications will visit Narragansett High School and Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts on April 3rd to honor local winners for C‑SPAN’s annual student video documentary competition, StudentCam. During the visit, C‑SPAN will present a StudentCam certificate of merit to the students during a ceremony of classmates, teachers, family members and elected officials to recognize their winning achievements in the national competition. The winning videos will also be viewed during the congratulatory events.
Each year, since 2006, C-SPAN partners with its local cable television providers in communities nationwide to invite middle and high school students to produce short documentaries about a subject of national importance. This year students addressed the theme, «What does it mean to be American? Choose a constitutional right, national characteristic, or historic event and explain how it defines the American experience.»
In response, a record of 6,318 students (a 10 percent increase over 2018) from 48 states and Washington, D.C., participated. The most popular topics among the 2,923 submissions included First Amendment rights (17 percent), equality/discrimination (13 percent) and immigration (9 percent).

This year, we’re so excited that our local students from Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts and Narragansett High School have been selected as winners in the national documentary competition.”
In Narragansett and Providence, C-SPAN programming is provided by Cox Communications as a commercial-free public service and can be seen on channel 76; C-SPAN2 on channel 77; and C-SPAN3 on channel 78 and on the web at C-SPAN.org. Funding for C-SPAN operations, including Bus visits, is provided by cable and satellite TV providers.
