Best Known Name in Southern Gospel to Perform in Pawtucket
Pawtucket, RI –The award winning Blackwood Brothers Quartet will perform a one night only concert at Woodlawn Baptist Church, 337 Lonsdale Avenue, Pawtucket on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 7:00 PM., with warm-up group Just Us 4 at 6:30.
Since their founding in 1934 the name «Blackwood Brothers» has become synonymous with Gospel Music, and their music has been heard around the world on radio, recordings, television and in personal appearances, recording over 200 albums and touring in 47 countries. They won eight Grammy Awards and six Dove Awards, and were inducted in the «Gospel Music Hall of Fame» in
Nashville, TN in 1998. The Blackwood family was close friends of Johnny Cash and his family and they appeared together, as well as with Elvis Presley and many well-known artists over the years.
Members of the group today include Billy Blackwood, Wayne Little, Butch Owens, and Jonathan Mattingly. Billy Blackwood sings baritone and is a song writer. He has toured with Voice and was the opening act for the Elvis Presley show. Wayne Little has sung in numerous quartets including the Crystal River Boys, and most recently, New Millennium. His crystal clear tenor voice is amazing people across the country including a concert at the Pentagon with Franklin Graham.
The third member of the group Butch Owens is no stranger to gospel music singing bass with the Stamps Quartet and with Bob Jones and the Songfellows Quartet. Jonathan Mattingly is the fourth and newest member of the quartet and sings lead. He grew up in a singing family and recently moved to Nashville where he found the answer to his prayers when he joined the quartet.
The concert is the final one in the 2018 concert series. It is free and will be held in the main church auditorium at the corner of Lonsdale Avenue and Weeden Street in Pawtucket.
