At least 33 militants of the Islamic State Armed Group were killed by the French and Russian air strikes in Northern Syria.

According to Rami Abdel Rahman, director of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, dozens of militants were also wounded in the raids on weapons depots, barracks and checkpoints in Raqa, which is the de facto capital of the IS Armed Group.

French warplanes have been pounding Raqa following last week’s attacks in Paris that left 129 dead, with warplanes carrying out dozens of raids from Sunday.

Russia also hit Raqa with long-range bombers and sea-launched missiles on Tuesday, after Moscow confirmed that a bomb attack brought down a Russian passenger jet over Egypt last month, killing all 224 people on board.

Meanwhile, the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle set out from the southern French port of Toulon on Wednesday, towards the eastern Mediterranean to participate in airstrikes against Islamic State Armed Group targets
