PROVIDENCE, RI – In conjunction with Providence’s First Responders, Councilman
Michael J. Correia will tonight co-host Providence’s annual National Night Out at
George J. West Park. National Night Out is a year-long community building campaign
designed to heighten crime prevention awareness, generate support for anti-crime
programs, and strengthen both neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

Across the nation, over 16,000 communities take part in this campaign each year.
Correia invites Providence adults and children to attend tonight’s event, which
gives residents of all ages opportunities to meet and interact with the public
safety leaders working within their own communities; Providence police officers,
firefighters, and first responders will be in attendance.

«Strong relationships build strong communities,» said Correia. «This is a fun,
relaxed community event that brings neighbors and officers closer together.
Residents get to know their neighbors and the men and women who help keep their
neighborhoods safe.»

Tonight’s event also features music, a bounce house, a giant slide, complementary
food provided by Aramark-Sodexo, and more. The event is free, family-friendly, and
open to the public.

Providence’s National Night Out is co-sponsored by Council President Luis Aponte,
Councilwoman Jo-Ann Ryan, Mayor Jorge Elorza, Providence Emergency Management, and
Aramark-Sodexo.
