Yard Waste Collection to Begin Early in Pawtucket

Pawtucket –Due to a lighter winter and extra time for yard work while social distancing, Mayor Donald R. Grebien and the Pawtucket City Council have announced that yard waste collection will begin a week earlier on Monday, March 22, 2020. Residents are asked to place leaf bags out on their normal trash pickup day.

“Everyone wants to keep our neighborhood and property clean and beautiful,” said Mayor Grebien. “We have heard from residents that they have spent the last few days, due to the pandemic, taking care of their yards. I thank the City Council and vendor MTG Disposal for working together with us to find creative ways to provide quality of life services to the community as we get through this pandemic.”

Leaves/yard waste must be in brown yard waste bags, that available at all local hardware stores, or put in a barrel (33 gallons or less) labeled yard waste in order to be collected. This program does not cover wood from building materials or scrap wood of any kind.

Leaf bags should not be mixed in with regular household trash as the mixed waste bags will not be picked up. Leaves and other yard waste, when mixed with household trash, add significantly to the City’s cost of disposal. Plastic bags are not allowed.
