UMass Dartmouth welcomes co-creator of ‘The Daily Show’ Lizz Winstead March 1
Comedian, writer, producer, and blogger to offer keynote remarks at Women’s History
Month kick-off event
UMass Dartmouth’s Center for Women, Gender & Sexuality (CWGS) will welcome
co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show , Lizz Winstead to campus March
1, at 6 p.m. at the University’s Claire T Carney Library Stoico/FIRSTFED Charitable
Foundation Grand Reading Room.
The comedian, writer, producer, and blogger will offer the keynote address for this
year’s Women’s History Month: The Body Politic , to discuss her work with
reproductive justice in the current political atmosphere.
As co-creator and former head writer of The Daily Show and Air America Radio
co-founder, Lizz Winstead has changed the very landscape of how people get their
news. As a performer, Winstead brought her political wit to The Daily Show as a
correspondent and later to the radio waves co-hosting Unfiltered , Air America
Radio’s mid-morning show. Her first book, Lizz Free Or Die , was released in 2012 to
incredible reviews and the paperback was released in May of 2013.
Lizz Winstead’s talents as a comedian and media visionary have been recognized by
all the major media outlets including The New York Times , The Washington Post and
Entertainment Weekly’s “100 Most Creative People” issue. Winstead continues to make
numerous television appearances, including Comedy Central Presents , HBO , CNN as
well as, her regular commentary on MSNBC .
Originally founded in 1970 as the Women’s Center, CWGS is a voice for women and the
lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered community, with the purpose of eliminating
barriers, diminishing prejudices, and creating a supportive climate and space for
all.
