Puerto Plata. Dominican Republic – This Friday, February 24th, the 14th Annual Basketball Tournament organized by the American foundation «Lights & Sirens International» kicks off in style, with the participation of six teams, having as its sole venue the Fabio Rafael González Sports Center in the city of Puerto Plata. counting on the support of Latino Public Radio (LPR), directed by Reynaldo Almonte.

The Providence Police, The Mocanos, and the Rhode Island State Police teams came out on top by dominating the Liga Masters de Puerto Plata, los Novatos de Puerto Plata y la Liga Añeja de Sosua, respectively.

The United States teams are made up, for the most part, by members of the police and firefighters from the different cities that participate, as well as Dominican international players. This event began Thursday, February 23 and is scheduled to conclude this Sunday, February 26.

The event has the collaboration of the prestigious international communication non-profit organization, Latino Public Radio (LPR), which is run by the prominent Dominican communicator Reynaldo Almonte and is broadcast by the digital platform LPR Deportes, led by the distinguished sports communicator Moisés Peña, who is accompanied by Sócrates Polanco and Celina Cruz.

The event is organized by a Non-Profit Foundation from United States, Lights & Sirens International. This Tournament has been held in the Dominican Republic for 14 years, with a special objective, in addition to sharing in the basketball environment, the visitors to the Dominican Republic in the 14 uninterrupted years coming to Dominican Republic, they carry out various activities, including community aid, motivational talks for young people, and sharing with professionals from the National Police, specifically located in the city of Puerto Plata.

The idea of this event came from Rhode Island Police Officer Ibn-Hashim Bakari, President of Lights and Sirens International, with the goal of attracting police officers and firefighters so they can enjoy the area’s tourist appeal and also Its objective is to raise funds for the organization to establish educational programs and humanitarian works for the youth of the city of Puerto Plata and surrounding areas.

Balkari expressed to Latino Public Radio reporters that he was happy and grateful for the great support received in the country and, mainly, he took the opportunity to thank Latino Public Radio for its support, which through its affiliate in the country LPR Deportes is broadcasting for the first time in the history of the basketball tournament.

In the first match it ended 63-35, in favor of the Providence Police team over the Puerto Plata Liga Masters de Puerto Plata. The Providence Police players had the brilliant work of Alex Díaz with 15 points, followed by Amil Morillo with 13 points, Joel Ikuejamofo with 11 baskets and Jonathan Leroux contributed 8 points, for the Puerto Plata Masters League, Johan Acosta with 13 points and Randall Acosta with nine points stood out.

In the second clash, the Mocanos beat the Novatos de Puerto Plata 70-63 at home, where Rodolfo Jiménez commanded the winners’ offensive with 23 points, José Guzmán 18 points and José Camacho with 11 points, for the Novatos Marco Santana stood out with 18 points, Luis Méndez finished with nine points.

Finally, at the end of the day, the Rhode Island State Police won 56-55, over the Liga Añeja de Sosua, with the outstanding offensive work of Edson Evora, who scored 16 points, helped by Luis Blanco with 12 points, Andrew Wolkis, who contributed eight points. From the opponents team , Ronald Pérez with 11 baskets, Roberto Acevedo with 10 points and Oscar Suarez finished with seven points.

The Tournament is scheduled to continue this Saturday starting at 3:00 in the afternoon, where the two games of the semifinal series will take place to define the two teams that will be measured this Sunday starting at 11:00 in the morning. at the Fabio Rafael González Sports Center in Puerto Plata.
