Taveras Wants Audit On The Urban League
Rhode Island – Providence Mayor Angel Taveras wants a forensic audit to be performed on the Urban League of Rhode Island before considering to sell a plot of the non-profit agency. Taveras spokesman David Ortiz said that an accounting firm will visit the Urban League to determine the cost and how extensive the audit would be.
The Urban League serves the poor and disadvantaged people. The city ceded land on Prairie Avenue in 1990 for $ 1 on the condition it be returned to the city if the organization decided to move. The city has to approve the sale and the authorities want to make sure that everything is in order with the group’s finances. The Urban League announced it plans to sell the property for $ 2.6 million to pay its debt of $ 2 million.
