Sylvia Moubayed to Receive Genesis Center Community Champion Award

Providence, RI – October 9, 2017 – Sylvia Moubayed, the late owner of CAV Restaurant, will be honored as an outstanding employer partner by Genesis Center at its 35th Anniversary Gala on October 25th at Roger Williams Park Casino. Sylvia, who passed away in September, was a strong supporter of Genesis Center from the start, when she helped Genesis Center’s cofounder, Sister Angela Daniels (along with Father Daniel Trainor), write grants and rally support for the new non-profit agency. CAV went on to host Genesis Center’s culinary training interns and hire program graduates at her restaurant. Sylvia’s family will accept the award on her behalf.

In a statement from Sylvia’s family, she is described as “a being of light whose sole mission in life was to heal and care for people in need. Her love and generosity radiated through every encounter and endeavor be it as small as a smile or as grand as the creation of CAV Restaurant, which will remain open to continue her mission of spreading love and light in the world.”

Genesis Center, founded in 1982 in Providence’s West End, is a multi-service organization providing high-quality adult education, job training, and childcare services to low-income community members, immigrants, and refugees who want to make a better life for themselves and their families. Today, it serves more than 800 adults and children from over 35 countries every year. The mission of Genesis is “to provide the highest quality education, job training and support services to people of diverse cultures so that they may achieve economic independence and participate fully in society.»
