RWU Commencement set for Saturday, May 18, with U.S. Senator Jack Reed to deliver Commencement Address and Civil Rights leader Clifford Montiero to receive an Honorary Degree
In two ceremonies on Friday, May 17 RWU Law Commencement address will be delivered by groundbreaking judicial scholar and RWU Graduate Commencement address will be delivered by alumna who served as victim advocate in USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar’s trial
RWU COMMENCEMENT
WHAT: U.S. Senator Jack Reed will deliver the commencement address to more than 1,200 graduates during the Roger Williams University undergraduate commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 18.
During the ceremony, RWU will present honorary degrees to Civil Rights leader Clifford R. Montiero, who marched with the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and served as president of the NAACP Providence branch for a decade, and to Marcia Morris, Vice Chair of the RWU Board of Trustees who served in executive management and chief legal officer roles during her career. The student commencement address will be delivered by Phoebe Thaler ’19, a political science and American studies major and RWU’s first openly transgender student commencement speaker.

RWU LAW COMMENCEMENT
WHAT: On Friday, May 17, 130 students will receive their diplomas during the RWU School of Law Commencement. Professor Lee Epstein, a leading scholar on judicial decision-making, will deliver the commencement address, and the law school will present honorary degrees to former Rhode Island Department of Corrections Director A.T. Wall II and Rhode Island trial lawyer Peter A. DiBiase.

RWU GRADUATE COMMENCEMENT
WHAT: Later that day, on Friday, May, 17, 150 graduate students will take part in RWU’s Graduate Commencement. The commencement address will be delivered by Rebekah Snyder, who received a master’s degree in forensic psychology from RWU in 2016 and who served as the victim advocate for the Michigan attorney general’s office in the sexual abuse case involving USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar. The student commencement address will be delivered by Amelia Tayeh, who completed a Master of Architecture with an Urban and Regional Planning Certificate in December 2018.
