RHODE ISLAND STATE POLICE TO HOLD 25th ANNUAL MEMORIAL CEREMONY SIX-YEAR-OLD BOY TO RECEIVE LIFESAVER AWARD

The Rhode Island State Police will hold its 25th Annual Memorial Ceremony on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at State Police Headquarters in North Scituate. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Headquarters Building. In 1962 President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation designating May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day and that week as Police Week. At this ceremony, all sworn and civilian members of the Rhode Island State Police, who are currently serving and who have served in the past, will be recognized as will law enforcement officers nationwide.
We will also recognize a 6-year-old Tiverton boy with the Rhode Island State Police “Lifesaver Award,” and Colonel O’Donnell will make him an Honorary Trooper. Michael Finch called E-911 after his mother became ill and was semi-conscious. Michael was able to remain calm and focused and provide E-911 and Tiverton dispatchers with critical information, which resulted in saving his mother’s life.
Members of the media and the public are cordially invited to attend the ceremony.
“Today we honor all members, sworn and civilian, of the Rhode Island State Police, who proudly serve and have served our state. Their pride, dedication, devotion, and integrity have been the hallmark of the Rhode Island State Police for ninety-one years. We are also honored to recognize a 6-year-old Tiverton boy for saving the life of his mother,” stated Colonel O’Donnell.
Governor Gina Raimondo, along with federal and state dignitaries will be in attendance, as well as Department Directors and local Chiefs of Police.
The Rhode Island State Police Museum will also be open following the ceremony.
