Rhode Island State Police Is Investigating Fatal Crash on I-95 in Hopkinton last night

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and
Director of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, announces that troopers
are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Interstate 95 in Hopkinton around
11:50 p.m. yesterday.

The victim has been identified as Elizabeth C. Kingsland, 31, of Mystic, CT, an
active-duty member of the United States Navy.

The crash occurred on Interstate 95 South, about two miles north of Exit 2 in
Hopkinton, where the car driven by Ms. Kingsland collided with a tractor-trailer
truck and went off the road, striking a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by troopers from the Rhode Island
State Police Hope Valley Barracks, Collision Reconstruction Unit and the Forensic
Services Unit. A preliminary investigation showed that the victim was wearing a
seatbelt at the time of the crash.
