Rhode Island State Police Investigates a Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Route 195 East at Taunton Avenue in the City of East Providence
Rhode Island – On Thursday, March 10, 2016 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police Lincoln Woods Barracks responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on Route 195 East at the Taunton Avenue exit in the City of East Providence, RI.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling on Route 195 East in the second lane of travel when the operator changed lanes, moving to the right while breaking for the exit ramp to Taunton Avenue. While attempting to access the ramp the motorcycle began to skid on the roadway. The motorcycle then struck the raised curbing on the right side of the exit ramp, causing the motorcycle to fall to the ground coming to rest on the raised concrete shoulder. The operator was then projected forward into a mile marker pole.
The operator of the motorcycle, John Cabral, age 29, of 156 Wilmarth Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Members of the State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Lincoln Woods Barracks are conducting the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor in the crash and that the operator was not wearing a helmet.
