Rhode Island State Police Financial Crimes Unit Arrests RI E911 Supervisor for Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses

The arrest resulted from an investigation by the Rhode Island State Police at the request of RI E911 into the alleged theft of over $2,000 in payroll compensation

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, announces that a RI E911 Supervisor has been arrested earlier today on a charge stemming from fraudulently obtaining money from the State of Rhode Island.

Members of the State Police Detective Bureau, at the request of the Director of Rhode Island E911, conducted an investigation into the fraudulentobtaining of additional compensation to a twenty-one (21) year veteran of the agency.  The investigation originated from an analysis of data through the RI E911 Director’s Office.

As a result of this investigation, members of the State Police Financial Crimes Unit today arrested Steven J. Castaldi, 43, of 25 Coolridge Avenue, Smithfield, Rhode Island, for one (1) felony count of Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses, over $1,500.

Mr. Castaldi is alleged by the State Police to have altered RI E911 work time logs over a one (1) year period and collected compensation for hours he had not legitimately worked.  On ten (10) separate occasions, Mr. Castaldi recorded work hours for days where he was not physically present at work.

Any person convicted of Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses may be sentenced up to three (3) years’ imprisonment and/or fined up to five thousand dollars ($5,000).
