Raimondo Formally Announces Her Candidacy For Governor

Rhode Island – With a long list of proposals, the Rhode Island General Treasurer Gina Raimondo formally announced her candidacy for governor during a rally on Monday from Pawtucket Hope Artiste Village . The Democrat was accompanied by dozens of supporters , including several politicians and Latino leaders and promised to work to improve the highways and schools and a new approach to improving the sluggish economy of the state. She told the audience that she supports tougher penalties for firearms and higher minimum wage laws. While several firefighters arrived to protest to demand of the Raimondo pension reform of 2011 , one of the main achievements of the candidate and which aims to save the state billions of dollars to suspend benefits and raise the retirement age , the law is now the subject of litigation in court. Raimondo faces , for now, the Mayor of Providence Angel Taveras in the Democratic primary.
