Protests accompany visit of Peggy Cabral in Providence

Rhode Island – Little more than a dozen Dominicans protested outside the town of Providence on Monday, the presence of Peggy Cabral, widow of José Francisco Peña Gómez, leader of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD) in the Dominican Republic and who now has her own TV show. Cabral was received by Mayor Angel Taveras

Taveras spokesman David Ortiz said the mayor had agreed to appear on  Cabral’s show. «His people called and said she was going to be in New York and Providence and wanted to interview Mayor Taveras  for their program,» said Ortiz, who emphasized that Taveras is not involved in Dominican politics said. Cabral has been involved in a power struggle in the PRD, and the protesters are of the opposite faction Cabral

Rhode Island – Poco mas de una docena de Dominicanos protestaron afuera del municipio de Providence el lunes, la presencia de Peggy Cabral, viuda del fallecido José Francisco Peña Gómez, líder del Partido Revolucionario Dominicano (PRD) en República Dominica y quien ahora tiene su propio programa de televisión. Cabral fue recibida por el Alcalde Angel Taveras

El portavoz de Taveras, David Ortiz dijo que el alcalde había aceptado aparecer en el show de Cabral. «Su gente llamó y me dijo que ella iba a estar en Nueva York y Providence y querían entrevistar alcalde Taveras para su programa», dijo Ortiz, quien destacó que Taveras no se involucra en la política dominicana. Cabral ha estado involucrada en un pugna por el poder en el PRD, y que los manifestantes son de la facción opuesta a la de Cabral
