President Barack Obama attending a fundraiser in Newport
President Barack Obama was in Newport attending a fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Friday night. Air Force One landed about 6:15 pm, then took off before 10pm.
The President was greeted by Governor Lincoln Chafee and the U.S. Senator Jack Reed. He took a few minutes with supporters before boarding Marine 1 for the fundraiser.
Rhode Island Democratic Congressmen David Cicilline and Jim Langevin were expected to attend along with House Speaker Nick Mattiello and Senate President Theresa Paiva Weed. Newport Mayor Harry Winthrop and Central Falls Mayor James Diossa was also expected to be in attendance.
The event will be held at an ocean-front home of Richard Bready, former CEO of Nortek.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee works to elect Democrats to the House of Representatives.
