Pope Francis Accepts Resignation of ‘Bishop of Bling’
Pope Francis accepted the resignation of the Bishop of Limburg, Germany, Franz Peter Tebartz van Elst, known as the «Bishop of Bling».
The Bishop said in a letter sent to the Pope, that he «was unable to lead his diocese». It was reported that the prelate will be relieved of their duties and will be reassigned to another position.
Tebartz van Elst had been separated the year of his duties due to his extravagant lifestyle and the excessive spending that he had incurred to renovate the official home of the bishopric, which was at cross purposes with the call for austerity made by Pope Francis at the start of his pontificate.
