OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES COMING TO ROUTE 6 FOR NEW LANE SHIFT AT WOONASQUATUCKET RIVER BRIDGE
Changes Effective November 6-7
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will institute a new traffic pattern this week on Route 6 at the Woonasquatucket River Bridge, just west of the Hartford Avenue exit in Providence. All lanes will shift to the right, with two travel lanes in both directions.
The shifts are scheduled to be in place in time for the morning commute on Wednesday, November 6 for eastbound traffic and Thursday, November 7 for westbound traffic. Overnight lane closures within the project area along Route 6 will precede each shift.
The new traffic pattern will remain through 2020. Final completion for this $10.8 million superstructure replacement project is Spring 2021.
The bridge carries 60,000 vehicles per day. Based on its last inspection, the bridge is only one rating point away from being declared structurally deficient.
The rehabilitation of the Woonaquatucket River Bridge is made possible by RhodeWorks, RIDOT’s ongoing commitment to repair structurally deficient bridges and bring Rhode Island’s transportation infrastructure into a state of good repair, promote economic development, and create jobs.
