Man recently out of federal prison faces new charges
Rhode Island – A man who walked out of federal prison last July was arrested and charged related to a hit and run in Cranston. Derrick King faces six charges including leaving the scene of an accident and assaulting a police officer. The crime happened less than a week after his older brother Daniel was accused of shooting an arrow wounding a young girl in Cranston, however the crimes are unrelated.
According to the police report, King crashed into a car head on Saturday on Peerless Street, and then took off. A witness identified King as the driver. Police were able to quickly track him down and King was taken into custody after resisting arrest and assaulting a sergeant with a door.
Court documents show that Derrick King was on parole at the time of the incident that generated the most recent charges.
Derrick King’s bail was set at $5,000 with surety. He is due back in court on September 15th.
