Lt. Governor McKee’s Statement on PARCC Results
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Lieutenant Governor Daniel J. McKee issued the following statement on the release of Rhode Island’s PARCC scores:
«While today’s PARCC results show some positive movement, it is clear that we must do more. We must set higher expectations and measure those expectations in the same way as our neighbors in Massachusetts.
We know that higher student achievement translates into increased earnings for our families, a stronger economy for our businesses to prosper in and more vibrant and healthy communities.
We must be bolder than we have ever been in pushing back against status quo thinking when it comes to our system of public education.
The PARCC results are one more example of the need for a «Call to Action» in every community and constituent group in Rhode Island. It is my hope that business leaders both large and small, church leaders, youth organizations, elected officials and education leaders will unite behind a grassroots effort to launch our public schools to Massachusetts levels and beyond. Now is the time to act.»
