The head of the U.S. Southern Command, General John Kelly, said Thursday that the Venezuelan government, with Nicolas Maduro at the head, does not trust the military.
Kelly told the Senate committee that forces in the Venezuelan military are loyal to themselves, and are waiting and watching to see what happens.
The general added that a sign of the government’s suspicions about where the military leans to is that it has not used it much to control the protests.
On Wednesday, Secretary of State, John Kerry, said his government is prepared to invoke the charter of OAS (Organization of American States) and possibly even impose sanctions «in various ways, by penalties or otherwise» in Venezuela.
