Governor Raimondo to Sign Executive Order Establishing Red Flag Policy
Raimondo says that legislation is needed, in addition to the executive order, to keep protections in place permanently.
PROVIDENCE, RI– Governor Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement
applauding the General Assembly for introducing red flag legislation to prevent
gun violence and gun suicides:
“The tragedy in Parkland has renewed the urgency once again for states to take action
to prevent gun violence. Today, I will sign an Executive Order establishing
a statewide red flag policy that will take effect immediately, but we still need
to pass legislation so these protections are in place permanently. I applaud the
legislature for introducing strong red flag legislation. I urge the General Assembly
to take swift action to pass it.”
