Governor, First Gentleman Participate in Save The Bay Swim

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Saturday, August 13, Governor Gina M. Raimondo and First Gentleman Andy Moffit kayaked across Narragansett Bay as part of the 40th Annual Save The Bay Swim.

«We owe so much to Narragansett Bay here in the Ocean State,» Raimondo said. «From seafood to recreational activities, the Bay is a huge part of what makes Rhode Island special. Andy and I had a great time kayaking with the swimmers and helping to raise awareness of this beautiful resource.»

«Rhode Island is lucky to have truly amazing natural assets,» Moffit said. «As the chair of the state Outdoor Recreation Council, I’m part of the effort to make sure we use these resources to their full potential. Events like the Save The Bay Swim are a great way to show that the Ocean State is a great place to work and play.»

While participants celebrated the opportunity to enjoy Narragansett Bay, the Save The Bay community was shaken by the death of a man who reportedly experienced a medical emergency during the swim. The Governor and First Gentleman send their deepest condolences to the family and friends of Frank Wuest.

According to Save The Bay, about 420 swimmers and 180 kayakers participated in this year’s event.
