Cranston Police and Fire Department Participating in the 35th Annual “National Night Out” at Garden City

Colonel Michael Winquist, Chief of the Cranston Police Department, and Chief William McKenna of the Cranston Fire Department announce on Tuesday, August 7th, 2018, our departments will join the efforts of thousands of other cities and town across the United States to promote safety, wellness, strengthen the police/fire-community partnership by participating in the 35th Annual “National Night Out”. Our partner for our event is Garden City Center and this year’s event will take place at the Shopping Center gazebo. The event begins at 6:00 PM and will end at 8:00 PM. “NNO” will involve people from more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people are
expected to participate.

Please consider coming to Garden City on the evening of August 7th as this will be a great family event and a chance to interact with police officers and firefighters and see all their public safety equipment. There will be activities for the kids in addition to a static display by all of our special teams, units, motorcycles, fire trucks, rescues and police vehicles of all design. Many of our community partners will be on hand as well:

CCAP Substance Abuse Task Force, CODAC, Blue Cross / Blue Shield of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s unclaimed property task force, the Cranston Public Library, the Cranston YMCA, and the Jim Pagano Foundation.

Events such as these are occurring nationwide and provide an opportunity for members of our police and fire departments to come together with our residents for a fun, family orientated evening. Positive interactions between public safety personnel and the residents we serve foster a sentiment of mutual trust and ultimately safer communities. I want to thank the many officers and firefighters from our respective departments who will be participating in the event, Garden City Center for
volunteering to serve as the host venue, as well as the many vendors who graciously agreed to donate their time, food and merchandise,” stated Colonel Michael Winquist.
