Cano Launches Grassroots Campaign for State Senate
PAWTUCKET – City Councilwoman Sandra Cano launched her grassroots campaign
for State Senate District 8 with a new headquarters and key local and state
endorsements.
On Saturday, Cano hosted more than 60 campaign volunteers at her new
campaign office at 912 Newport Avenue. Cano discussed her focus on growing
the economy, creating jobs and strengthening schools. Volunteers collected
more than 200 signatures and secured Cano’s place on the ballot for the
February 27 Democratic primary.
Volunteers included Tolman High School student Kinnan Dowie who said,
“Sandra Cano has made me proud to be a Pawtucket resident. When I met her,
I immediately loved her as a person who cared about education and our
city’s future.”
Tony Pires was also there on Saturday. “Sandra is an outstanding public
servant and is a real up and comer in our state. Her experience in
economics, banking, and the community along with her dedication are what
make her who she is,” said Pires. “Having served as an elected state
representative, I know she has the prerequisites to become and outstanding
state senator.”
This week Cano received the endorsements of the Democratic Women’s Caucus
and the Young Democrats of Rhode Island.
President of the Young Democrats, Michael Beauregard, said, “Sandra’s
commitment to the people of Pawtucket is unmatched. She is a champion for
young people, working people, and families. She’s also hands-down the most
capable candidate having served on both the Pawtucket School Board and City
Council and led multiple community-driven efforts to support and grow small
business in the city.”
Friends of Sandra Cano will be holding a campaign fundraiser on Wednesday,
January 30 at the Pawtucket Country Club from 6:00pm to 8:00pm to raise
money for campaign signs and materials. The event has many co-hosts
