WEYMOUTH, MA – A Weymouth police officer who suffered life-threatening injuries in a shooting Sunday morning has died, along with a woman inside a nearby home who was struck by gunfire as officers chased the suspect on foot, her name has not been made public authorities said.

Weymouth Police Chief Richard Grimes has identified the shooting suspect as Emanuel Lopes.

Police said Lopes crashed a car and then attacked 42-year-old Weymouth Police Officer Michael Chesna, a six year veteran, with a stone. Chesna fell to the ground, and officials said, Lopes took the officer’s gun and shot Chesna multiple times.
