American Mothers Names Nydia Diaz-Perez Puerto Rico Mother of the Year

National Non-Profit to Honor Mothers across the US States, DC, and Puerto Rico

Washington, DC – American Mothers Inc. ® has named the state
Mother of the Year® and Mother of Achievement honorees for 2017. Nydia Diaz-Perez
from Ponce, PR has been selected to represent the territory of Puerto Rico. She
will serve as an ambassador for mothers across the country and will be recognized at
an annual national conference in Washington DC from April 23-25, 2017, where the
National Mother of the Year will be named.

American Mothers Inc. ® is celebrating its 82nd year of nationally honoring
motherhood, educating on issues impacting mothers and children at home, at work, and
in the world. American Mothers recognizes the contributions and commitment to
family and community that moms exhibit on a daily basis.

Nydia was selected from nominees from across the territory of Puerto Rico as Mother
of the Year because she excels in her role as a mother and as a community leader.
Nydia Margarita Diaz-Perez is the 5th of 6 siblings, growing up in Saint Croix, US
Virgin Islands, where she completed her primary and secondary education at St.
Mary’s Catholic School. She is fluent in Spanish, English, and the «Crucian»
dialect. Nydia has completed credits leading to a master degree in TESOL. After
completing her college degree in education and business administration in the city
of Ponce, Puerto Rico, Nydia worked for 30 years teaching English as a second
language with the Puerto Rico Department of Education. During her employment, Nydia
contributed with achievements at the Divine Trinity School in St. Croix, USVI, with
the US Virgin Islands Department of Education, the Puerto Rico Department of
Education and with Daniel Construction, Westgate Caribe. She loves to participate in
cultural and social, community events shared with her husband Teodoro. She is
currently a member of the Puerto Rico Society of Retired Teachers, the Saint Mary’s
Residents Association, the PR Federation of Business and Professional Women, the
Perla del Sur Club, the Sisterhood of the Sorrowful Virgin, and American Mothers,
Inc.

Mother of the Year® nominees qualify for the honor by having one or more children
and being amazing in their role as mom. Nominees for Mother of Achievement should be
an individual who has made a significant contribution to improve the lives of
mothers and children in her community and/or the nation but she does not need to
have children to qualify.
