Juvenile Arrested in Stolen Vehicle
Providence, RI – On February 5, 2015 at approximately 0002 hours, Providence Police responded to 1020 Narragansett Boulevard at the Shell gas station for the report of a stolen motor vehicle. Police met with the victim who stated that while he walked into the Shell gas station, the cashier yelled to him that his car was being stolen. The victim observed a black male jump out of the passenger side of a silver Porsche Cayenne and jump into the victim’s rental car, a 2014 white Dodge Charger, driving away at a high rate of speed. The Porsche had temporary Rhode Island tags and described as having a black female operator wearing black glasses and a black hat who also fled the scene. Patrolman Sheridan broadcasted a description of both vehicles in order for other officers to play the area.
Taskforce Investigators McGloin and Lafferty stopped a vehicle matching the description of the Porsche which was in the vicinity and Patrolman Sheridan responded to the scene where police detained the operator of the vehicle who was later identified as Taquala Wiggington (19-years-old). While collecting the vehicle information from the Porsche, Patrolman Sheridan observed the Charger being operated by a black male pull up behind the Porsche. Patrolman Sheridan attempted to pull the suspect from the vehicle but the suspect pulled away at a high rate of speed. Patrolman Sheridan gave chase on foot where he observed the vehicle turn right onto Baker Street at a high rate of speed while broadcasting the description and direction of the vehicle.
The fleeing vehicle crossed Eddy Street and lost control colliding with a utility pole which it broke through and hit a tree head on where the vehicle came to a stop. Several officers were on scene and advised Fire Rescue and National Grid for active live wires on the ground. At this point the Charger became engulfed in flames and Patrolmen Endres, Corley, Place and Investigators McGloin and Lafferty broke the glass window of the driver side and extracted the suspect from the burning vehicle. The suspect was transported to Hasbro by Providence Fire Rescue with severe injuries.
The suspect, a 16-year-old male juvenile, was run through NCIC/Local and came back with a warrant out of Providence Police and is also being charged with no license and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Wiggington was transported to Central Station and held for the next session of 6th District Court, charged with no license and aiding and abetting by detectives.
