PROVIDENCE –Following two consecutive nights of violent activity in the Wanskuck area, Councilman David A. Salvatore (Ward 14) has asked the Providence Police Department to strengthen its presence in the neighborhood. Salvatore also seeks to engage in a collaborated effort among city leaders to curtail violence throughout the city.

Salvatore today contacted Major Thomas Verdi, a commanding officer of the Providence Police Department, to request the staffing increase. “We must take proactive measures to ensure our neighborhoods are safe,” said Salvatore. “I share the same concerns as my friends and neighbors, and I am working with the police department to restore a sense of safety in our community.”

Salvatore is also calling for a city-wide collaboration to reduce violence in Providence. “We need to have a serious discussion about employing programs that target chronic gang and violent activities, especially relative to the city’s youth,” said Salvatore. “Through my role on the Council, I want to focus on long-term solutions that eradicate violence from all Providence neighborhoods.”
