Providence, RI – On December 9, 2015 at approximately 17:08 hours, Providence Police responded to the area of Mount Pleasant Avenue and Cathedral Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck. The vehicle had been operating northerly on Mount Pleasant Avenue when it struck the pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

At approximately 18:40 hours, a female by the name of Tarchae Powell (age 19) of Providence, Rhode Island walked into Providence Police Headquarters to report that she was driving the vehicle that fled from the scene after striking the pedestrian on Mount Pleasant Avenue.

Powell was later charged with due care by operator and failure to yield right of way to pedestrian in a crosswalk. The investigation continues and a request was made to the Rhode Island Attorney General’s office to conduct a review of this case.

The pedestrian was identified as Anne-Marie Dansicker (age 53) of Warwick, Rhode Island, a teacher at Mt. Pleasant High School. Ms. Dansicker was transported by Rescue to Rhode Island Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Earlier today, Providence Public Schools Superintendent Christopher N. Maher issued the following statement addressing the tragic loss:
