PROVIDENCE, RI – The City of Providence will host the annual Holiday Celebration on Saturday, December 5th at the Providence Rink in Kennedy Plaza.

To complete preparations, the City needs 2 evergreen trees: a 35-foot to 45-foot spruce or fir tree to grace City Hall steps and a 15-foot to 20-foot spruce or fir for the Providence Rink for the Christmas Tree Lighting.

The City is asking residents to nominate their own trees that they wish the City to remove from their property. Stanley Tree Service will be generously donating crane service for the trees, as they have in past years. Residents can nominate their tree by sending an e-mail with a description and photo of the tree to Lizzie Araujo, the City’s Cultural Affairs Manager in the Department of Art, Culture + Tourism at laraujo@providenceri.com<mailto:laraujo@providenceri.com>. Submissions must be received by Thursday, November 12.

The Forestry Division of the Department of Parks and Recreation will cut the winning tree down and haul it away free of charge. The trees will be displayed on the steps of City Hall and at the Rink throughout the holiday season. The winning tree owner will be photographed with Mayor Elorza in front of the tree during the lighting ceremony. The Providence Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Saturday, December 5 from 5PM-7PM at The Alex & Ani City Center, 2 Kennedy Plaza, Providence. The ceremony will feature award winning skating teams from around the state. Ceremony will include family friendly activities, refreshments and music.
