National awareness campaign calls attention to work zone safety

According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, in 2017 there were 710 fatal work zone crashes and 799 work zone fatalities, including 132 worker fatalities.

Those data points are one of the many reasons why public agencies, organizations, and individuals will participate in National Work Zone Awareness Week(NWZAW), April 8-12, 2019. 

NWZAW is a national public awareness campaign that brings attention to the importance of work zone safety and reminds the public to use caution in and around work zones across the country. 

We all play a role in work zone safety and protecting roadway workers who put their lives on the line each day to make our roadways safer. 

The campaign’s national media kickoff event will be held by the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) in Washington, D.C., on April 9, 2019 at 11 a.m. Eastern. This year’s theme is “Work Zones: Drive Like You Work Here.” 

Here’s how to help spread the word about work zone safety:

• Are you in the Washington, D.C. area? Join us for the national media kickoff event by emailing communications@atssa.com.
