On Sunday, January 7, 2018, members of the BPD Fugitive Apprehension Unit and Homicide Unit, assisted by members of the U.S. Marshals and law enforcement partners in the Rhode Island area, arrested 28-year-old Marquis Martin of Roxbury for Murder by virtue of a felony warrant out of Dorchester District Court. Officers were able to locate the suspect at a motel in Middleton, Rhode Island where he was placed in custody without incident after a forced entry. The arrest came just a little more than two months after the shooting death of David Cole in Dorchester.

Said Police Commissioner William Evans, “Solving every homicide remains a top priority for me and every member of my Homicide Unit. They work tirelessly on every case to not only identify those responsible, but to track them down and arrest them no matter where they try to hide. I wish to commend the great work by the Homicide Unit and the Fugitive Apprehension Unit for identifying, tracking and removing this violent suspect from our communities.”

The original facts of the investigation are as follows:

At about 7:48 PM on Sunday, October 29, 2017, officers from District C-6 (South Boston) responded to a call for a person shot in the area of 7 Peninsula Place in Dorchester. On arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim, later identified as 30-year-old David Cole of South Boston, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

At the time of his arrest, the suspect was wanted on several additional warrants, including one issued out of Roxbury District Court for Assault while Armed with Intent to Murder in connection to a non-fatal shooting that occurred just prior to the fatal shooting of David Cole. During that incident, an adult male victim was shot while seated in a parked motor vehicle at about 6:24 PM on October 29, 2017, in the area of 127 Eustis Street in Roxbury.
