On Saturday, December 10th, at 2:00 PM, members of the Cranston Police Department, including the Chief of Police, Colonel Michael J. Winquist, will take local children shopping at the Walmart located at 1776 Plainfield Pike. This event, sponsored by the Cranston YMCA and Cadence Manufacturing, provides disadvantaged children the chance to shop with local police officers to brighten their holidays. The children are selected based on income and circumstances with the assistance of the Cranston YMCA. Each child will be paired with a uniformed officer and have money to spend on gifts for their family members and themselves. “We hope to foster core values such as caring, giving, and fellowship; along with creating positive experiences that the children and officers will remember long after the Holidays pass,” Captain Vincent McAteer, of the Department’s Office of Community Outreach said, “This is a fantastic way to make a lasting connection in the lives of some really great kids. We hope it will make a difference in their Holidays for them. We know it will for us.”

Shop with a Cop, and other outreach programs, could not take place without the continued generosity and sustained partnerships with our local businesses and community organizations. For this effort, Cadence Manufacturing has graciously donated $1000.00 to the Cranston YMCA to be used specifically for this event. Cadence Manufacturing Representative Jamie Messier said, “We are proud to participate in this event with the Cranston YMCA and the Cranston Police Department. Cadence is happy to be able to provide some children and families with gifts, and hopefully some cherished memories, during this Holiday season”. Cory Guglietti, Executive Director of the Cranston YMCA stated, “Every year, for the past 3 years Cadence has donated money to support families in need at the Y. When the police department approached the Y with this idea, our board thought it would be a great way to involve yet another partner. We appreciate the support from Cadence, the time and energy of the officers and the importance the Chief puts on community outreach. ”
