Program is Preparing Students for Careers in Fast-Growing Cybersecurity Industry

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Following the launch of the Rhode Island Cyber Range Initiative,
Governor Gina M. Raimondo will meet with Newport P-TECH students on Friday to hear
about their early experiences in the program. P-TECH is designed to create clear
pathways for high school students to college and careers in advanced industries.
The Newport program opened its doors to the first cohort of ninth grade students
in September. Students in the program can earn an associate degree in cybersecurity
from CCRI and participate in workplace experiences facilitated by industry partner
Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance (SENEDIA)

«Every student in Rhode Island should have the opportunity to graduate high school
and be college and career ready – their futures are the future of Rhode Island,
and their success is our success,» said Governor Gina M. Raimondo. «With these P-TECH
schools, we are reimagining the high school experience to prepare students with
the skills they need for success in high-wage, high-skills jobs – including in the
fast-growing cybersecurity industry. I’m excited to listen to and learn from the
students who are pioneering this program.»
