POAH hold ribbon cutting on the new and improved Aaron Briggs Manor in Providence

Providence – Located just four miles apart, Cherry Hill Apartments and
Aaron Briggs Manor in Providence together comprise 160
affordable apartments for seniors. «Cherry Briggs,» as the
project is known, used gap financing from Rhode Island’s
Housing Preservation and Production Program (H PPP) and
is the first affordable housing to be preserved and to
complete renovations under the program. Additionally,
the project used tax-exempt bond financing in
combination with 4 tax credit equity to complete the
rehabilitation.

Aaron Briggs Manor is an 88-unit senior/ disabled housing
development in Providence’s West End at the edge of
Federal Hill. Cherry Hill Apartments is a 72-unit senior/
disabled affordable housing development in Johnston.
Both are owned and operated by nonprofit Preservation of
Affordable Housing (POAH).

POAH closed on the financing earlier in 2016 and began
construction at Cherry Briggs. Renovations include: new
roofs, siding and insulation, energy efficient windows, hot
water heater and boiler replacements, landscape
improvements, elevator upgrades, an upgraded fire
protection system, new common area flooring and select
unit upgrades to meet ADA requirements.

Governor Raimondo said, housing is a core part of economic development. You can’t get up every day and get to work on time w/out a safe roof over your head. That’s why, in my first budget, I created the Rhode Island Housing Preservation and Production Program.
Today, we saw that project come to fruition when I joined Senator Jack Reed, Treasurer Seth Magaziner and RI Housing Executive Director Barbara Fields to cut the ribbon on Aaron Briggs Manor in Providence and Cherry Hill Apartments in Johnston- a total of 160 units for elderly and disabled residents.
