PROVIDENCE, RI – The Ward 9 Democratic City Committee announced its
endorsement of Michael Solomon for Mayor of Providence today.

At a meeting last night, the Committee considered each of the four declared
democratic candidates for Mayor and voted unanimously to endorse Solomon.
The Committee represents Providence’s Washington Park and Elmwood
neighborhoods.

“Michael has the vision, values and experience to guide the city,” said
Ward 9 chairwoman Ana Rivas. “He listens, cares and knows first-hand the
needs of our community. The voters of Elmwood and Washington Park know
that Michael will work hard with all of us to improve the quality of life
in our neighborhoods, create jobs and improve our schools."

“I want to thank the Ward 9 Democrats for their support and I am especially
thankful because this is one of the most diverse wards in our city,” said
Solomon. "Voters across the city are joining our campaign because they
know it is critical that we maintain the course with fiscal responsibility
while at the same time strategically investing in our schools, in job
creation and in improving our neighborhoods."

Solomon has now garnered the first 3 ward committee endorsements: the 2nd
highest voter turnout ward of Ward 5, and the two South Side committees of
Ward 9 and Ward 10. These endorsements add to the growing momentum of
Solomon’s campaign. He recently announced that he ended the first
fundraising quarter with more than $600,000 on hand. In recent weeks, he
was endorsed by the 16 construction unions comprising the Rhode Island
Building and Construction Trades Council, the International Union of
Painters and Allied Trades, IATSE Local 23, as well as City Councilman Luis
Aponte and Democratic City Chair and Senate Majority Whip Maryellen
Goodwin.

That follows the endorsements of a diverse cross-section of city elected
officials, including: Joe Almeida, State Representative, District 12; Luis
Aponte, City Councilman, Ward 10; John Carnevale, State Representative,
District 13; Carmen Castillo, City Councilwoman, Ward 9; Michael Correia,
City Councilman, Ward 6; John DeSimone, State Representative, District 5
and House Majority Leader; Grace Diaz, State Representative, District 11;
Maryellen Goodwin, Providence Democratic City Committee Chairwoman and
State Senate Majority Whip; Terrence Hassett, City Councilman, Ward 12 and
President Pro Tempore; Wilbur Jennings, City Councilman, Ward 8; Sabina
Matos, City Councilwoman, Ward 15; Nicholas Narducci, City Councilman, Ward
4 and Senior Deputy Majority Leader; Thomas Palangio, State Representative,
District 3; David Salvatore, City Councilman, Ward 14; Scott Slater, State
