Latino Politicians Announce Support For Raimondo

Rhode Island - So far five Latino politicians have announced that they are supporting the candidacy of Democrat General Treasurer Gina Raimondo for governor, according to an email from the Friends of Gina Raimondo. Providence Councilmen Luis Aponte and Davian Sanchez Sabina Matos to State Representatives and Anastasia Williams Grace Díaz join in supporting Raimondo. His only opponent in the Democratic primary, so far, is the Mayor of Providence Angel Taveras, is the first Latino elected mayor as the top leader of the capital city of Rhode Island. Feds Blame Rhode Island For Segregation Of The Disabled

Rhode Island - The Justice Department of the United States found that thousands of disabled residents of Rhode Island were "unnecessarily segregated in day programs licensed by the state and other institutions". Federal authorities say that segregation is a violation of federal civil rights of residents and recommends that the state develop appropriate alternatives to the current system . Taveras Wants Audit On The Urban League

Rhode Island - Providence Mayor Angel Taveras wants a forensic audit to be performed on the Urban League of Rhode Island before considering to sell a plot of the non-profit agency. Taveras spokesman David Ortiz said that an accounting firm will visit the Urban League to determine the cost and how extensive the audit would be. The Urban League serves the poor and disadvantaged people. The city ceded land on Prairie Avenue in 1990 for $ 1 on the condition it be returned to the city if the organization decided to move. Increasing Latino Support for Gubernatorial Candidate Gina Raimondo

At least five elected Latino officials are supporting Gina Raimondo in her gubernatorial campaign.  Among these officials are Providence City Council members Sabina Matos, Luis Aponte, and Davian Sanchez and state Representatives Grace Diaz and Anastasia Williams. The Latino leaders joined together with Gina Raimondo on Tuesday to launch Latinos con Gina at a kickoff party. Raimondo's only Democratic primary opponent so far is Providence Mayor Angel Taveras, the first Latino mayor of the city.

Convicted Sex Offender Sentenced For Killing A Woman

Rhode Island - Douglas White 34-year-Providence, was sentenced to 60 years with 35 in prison for the second degree murder of Donna Oliver, 54 years also of Providence, leaving her body in a closet ,  fleeing the house, and taking a TV in April 2012 . Oliver's son found the body, three weeks later, at their home on Grape Street. ACI Prisoner Accused Of Assaulting Guard

Rhode Island - A prisoner at the State Prison of Cranston is facing multiple charges including assault for allegedly assaulting a correctional officer, on his first day of work on Sunday. Anthony Tavares faced trial in 2001 accused of stabbing to death his social worker. Tavares was held at the Eleanor Slater Hospital after he was found not guilty of murder by reason of insanity. Rhode Island - One of the leading candidates for governor of Rhode Island announced that he was responsible for a fatal accident 25 years ago.
