Rhode Island State Police Arrests a Providence Man for Driving Under the Influence
of Alcohol and/or Drugs After He Was Found to Have a Blood-Alcohol Level Four Times
Greater than the Legal Limit

Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and
Director of the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, announces the arrest of a
Providence man who was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and/or
drugs after he was found to have a blood-alcohol level four times greater than the
legal limit.

Antonio Briones, age 47, of 160 Academy Ave., Providence, Rhode Island was charged
with:

* Driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs, first
offense, .15 or greater, and
* Operating without a license.

State Troopers arrested Briones about 5:30 p.m. yesterday after receiving a call for
a motor vehicle being operated erratically in Providence. They spotted the car on
Broadway and stopped it at the intersection of Broadway and Pallas Street. The
driver, later identified as Briones, was charged with driving under the influence
after a chemical test found his blood-alcohol level to be more than four times the
legal limit of .08 (Phase I, .321; Phase II, .303).

Briones was also charged with operating without a driver’s license. In addition, he
was issued traffic citations for laned roadway violations and operating left of
center. He was arraigned before a justice of the peace and released pending further
court action.
