Meals on Wheels with Governor Gina Raimondo delivers 18 Millionth Meal
Providence – On Monday Governor Raimondo delivers the 18 millionth meal from Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island with the Executive Director, Heather Amaral and Marlene LeRoy, Director of Development, to a gentleman residing at St. Elizabeth’s Place in Providence. The gentleman was accompanied by his granddaughter and great grandchildren, as well as his cat Yo-Yo.
The Governor has said “There’s a lot of people in Rhode Island struggling, a lot of seniors who don’t have anybody to look out for them, don’t have anybody to bring them food, so we’ve got to pull together and take care of everybody.”
Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island; the only non-profit home-delivered meal program in the state, continues to serve thousands of meals each day. The Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island is dedicated to helping Rhode Island’s frail and elderly throughout the entire state. Since 1969, from Westerly to Woonsocket and from Newport to Cumberland, our staff and team of volunteers serves nearly 1,500 meals each day. It is through the support and generosity of our friends and neighbors by way of private and corporate donations, that Meals on Wheels is able to continue to help the elderly maintain their sense of independence.
